Pedir means to ask for/ to or to request someting Preguntar means to ask a question.
Ana pide dinero para irse de vacaciones.

Ana asks for money to go on vacation.

María pide permiso para salir esta noche.

María asks for permission to go out tonight.

Miguel me pidio el álbum con las fotos de su viaje a Granada.

Miguel asked me for the photo album with the pictures from Granada.

Lucía le pide a Raquel que la espere en el aeropuerto de Los Angeles.

Lucía asks Raquel to wait for her at the L.A. airport.

María pregunta si puede ir al cine.

María asks if she can go to the movies.

Ana me pregunta si quiero salir esta noche.

Ana asks me if I want to go out tonight.

Lucía le pregunta a Juan si tiene más información sobre la Alhambra.

Lucía asks Juan if he has more information about the Alhambra.

Manolo me preguntó, "¿Qué hora es?"

Manolo asked me, "What time is it?"
