Santiago de Chile

Santiago de Chile is the capital of Chile. It is located in the country's central valley, in the centre of the Santiago Basin, a large bowl-shaped valley consisting of a broad and fertile plain surrounded by mountains.
The capital has a Mediterranean climate: relatively hot dry summers and more humid winters.
Santiago has a cosmopolitian diverse culture, tourists whom traveled there have associated Santiago as a "Little Europe”.
I the 20th century Santiago flourished and continued to grow rapidly.
The Andes mountains around Santiago are quite tall, culminating in Tupungato volcano. Other volcanoes include Tupungatito, San José and Maipo. These are active volcanoes.
Despite the long history, there are only a few historical buildings from the Spanish colonial period in the city, because Santiago was regularly hit by earthquakes.

The buildings from this period include:
-The Casa Colorada
-The Church San Francisco
-Posada del Corregidor

Another reason that it lacks old buildings from this time is the new richness of Chile. At the time of the Spanish colony, the city had economically only a low impact, the upswing was only after independence.
This explains the low age of many buildings built mainly in neoclassic style.
At the Plaza Montt is the building of the Justice Palace, that was built by the architect Emilio Doyére. It is the seat of the Supreme Court.
Other landmarks include:

-The “Biblioteca Nacional de Chile”
-The Fine Arts Museum
-The Contemporary Art Museum
-The “Plaza de Armas”
-Municipal Theatre

Santiago is also home of Chile’s successful footbal club like “Colo Colo” and many other.
Moreover, Santiago has a lot of universities, colleges, research institutions and libraries.
