Seville is situated in Andalusia on the plain of the river Guadalquivir. It is considered the artistic and cultural capital of southern Spain.
The passage of various civilizations, has left in Seville a very deep mark. It has many medieval, renaissance and baroque heritages, that it received from Arabic culture influence.
After the conquest by the Moors, the city was taken by the Muslims in 712 and it was renamed “Seville”. For this reason many original Moorish elements remain, like public structures and large parts of the fortified city wall. The Moorish influences are very present in Seville nowaday, for this motivation is a city that has to have visited.
Seville has got a lot of monuments, streets, museums and sculpture that is worth to see. For example, in Seville it's possible admire:
- The “Cathedral of Seville”, that is the largest of medieval and gothic cathedrals. The interior is finely decorated with a great quantity of gold.
- The “Alcazar”, that is relevant for its gardens that are a blend of Moorish and Andalusian traditions.
- The “Torre del Oro”, very peculiar for its defensive barrier on the river.
- The “University of Seville”
- The “Plaza de España”, in Maria Luisa Park, that is a mixture of different historic styles.
Moreover, Seville has got also a great number of museums, like:
The Museum of Fine Arts of Seville. It holds many masterworks by very important masters of the Sevillian School.
Other prominent museums in Seville include:
- The María Luisa Park, that contains two museums: the Archaeological Museum and the Museum of Traditional Arts and Customs.
- The Andalusian Contemporary Art Center
- The Flamenco Art Museum

In Seville,as long as other cities, there are many festivals. The most important is the “Semana Santa”, internationally known for its processions. People spend the week dancing and drinking.
Moreover we have to underline the importance of gastronomy in this wonderful city. Its products are very special and tasty. “Tapas” are considered the main cultural attraction:people go from one bar to another, enjoying a drink served with little dishes.
